These creamy mashed potatoes are made with Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, butter, and a hint of garlic. Perfect for a cozy dinner or holiday feast, this scrumptious comfort food is easy to prepare and sure to please everyone at the table.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet Potatoes peeled and cut into large chunks
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt plus more for the water
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • ¾ cup Heavy Cream or whole milk
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water, adding a generous pinch of salt.
  2. Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce to a steady simmer, cooking for 18–22 minutes until very tender.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine butter, cream, and minced garlic. Warm gently over low heat until the butter melts; do not boil.
  4. Drain the potatoes and return them to the hot pot, letting them sit for 1–2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture.
  5. Use a potato masher to mash the potatoes until mostly smooth.
  6. Slowly pour in the warm butter and cream mixture, continuing to mash until smooth and creamy.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper, adjusting to taste.
  8. Serve warm, topped with extra butter if desired.
