Ingredients
Scale
- 3–3½ cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1 (0.25-oz) packet instant yeast (2¼ teaspoons) or active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water 105℉
- 2 large eggs divided
- 3 tablespoons butter melted
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds or coarse sea salt for topping, optional
Instructions
- Whisk 3 cups of flour and instant yeast into a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer.
- In a separate bowl, mix warm water, 1 egg, melted butter, honey, olive oil, and salt. Combine with the flour mixture.
- Knead the dough for about 5 to 6 minutes until soft and somewhat sticky, adding more flour if necessary. Let it rest and rise for 30 minutes.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Flatten the dough and cut it into 8 equal pieces, forming each into a round ball and then flattening into a disc. Place on the sheet.
- Lightly dust the buns with flour, cover them loosely with plastic wrap, and let them rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375℉ (190℃).
- Make an egg wash by whisking the remaining egg with milk. Brush this gently on tops of the buns, sprinkling with salt or sesame if desired.
- Bake for 15 to 17 minutes until lightly browned. Cool and slice to serve.

Ensure the water temperature is around 105℉ for proper yeast activation.
If using active dry yeast, allow it to bloom in warm water before adding to the flour.
For a richer flavor, let the dough rise in the fridge overnight.
