  • Total Time: 5 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6–8 slices thick cut bacon cooked and crumbled (reserve 1 tablespoon bacon grease)
  • 4 cans (15 oz each) Navy beans drained and rinsed
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 tablespoons molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and crumble once cool, reserving 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, molasses, maple syrup, ketchup, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Add the drained navy beans to the slow cooker. Pour the prepared sauce over the beans, then mix in the chicken broth, reserved bacon grease, and half of the crumbled bacon. Stir gently.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.
  5. Stir in the remaining bacon during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  6. For thicker baked beans, remove the lid and cook on HIGH for an additional 20–30 minutes, or until the desired sauce consistency is achieved.
