  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. ground pork sausage
  • ÂĽ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ÂĽ cup butter
  • ÂĽ cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ÂĽ teaspoon onion powder
  • ÂĽ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 (8 count) tube refrigerated biscuits
  • 6 large eggs
  • ÂĽ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded colby jack cheese or cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground pork sausage. Add red pepper flakes in the last few minutes of cooking. Once browned, set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for several minutes while continuously whisking. Gradually, whisk in the milk, salt, onion powder, and black pepper. Simmer until thickened, whisking frequently. Stir in ½ cup of the cooked sausage mixture into the gravy and mix well.
  4. Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and scatter them in a single layer at the bottom of the casserole dish. Add the browned sausage on top and sprinkle half of the cheese over it.
  5. In another bowl, whisk the eggs with heavy cream and then pour this mixture over the cheese layer.
  6. Pour the thickened gravy over the whole casserole, then sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. Bake uncovered for about 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed and lightly browned, ensuring the eggs are set.
