  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 5 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz Jumbo Shells (about 18)
  • ¾ cup Mozzarella Cheese (topping)
  • ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese (topping)
  • ½ tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
  • ½ Yellow Onion (chopped)
  • ½ lb Ground Sausage
  • 2 Garlic Cloves (minced)
  • 15 oz Can Tomato Sauce (see notes)
  • 8 oz Can Tomato Sauce (see notes)
  • ½ teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 cups Chopped Spinach
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese
  • ½ cup Mozzarella Cheese
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • â…› teaspoon Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Boil a large pot of water and cook jumbo shells for 2 minutes less than the package instructions indicate for 'al dente'. Drain and cool the shells before stuffing.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and olive oil. Add the chopped onions and cook until they become tender. Stir in the ground sausage and cook until browned. Mix in the rest of the meat sauce ingredients and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Spread one third of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish or a 4-quart braiser.
  5. Prepare the ricotta filling by combining all ingredients for it, then stuff the shells with the filling. Place the stuffed shells in the baking dish and top with the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle the top with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Once done, remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
