- 8 cups sourdough bread, cubed (preferably day-old)
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Butter for greasing the baking dish
- Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Cube the sourdough bread and let it dry if fresh.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Combine the cubed bread with the egg mixture in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Uncover the dish and dot the top with butter.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Cool for 10 minutes, slice, and serve with maple syrup.
