Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk whole preferred
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 1/4 ounce packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 whole large eggs
  • 4 1/41/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm milk and salted butter until it reaches 110°F, combining it with yeast in a stand mixer for frothiness. Let it sit for 2 minutes.
  2. Mix in orange juice, orange zest, granulated sugar, and eggs until well combined.
  3. Incorporate flour and ground cinnamon, mixing until a dough forms. Knead in a stand mixer for about 8 minutes or by hand until slightly sticky but manageable.
  4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a warm damp towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a 16×12 inch rectangle, spread softened butter on top, and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over it before pressing down gently.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the shorter side, cut into 8-10 rolls, and place in a greased baking pan. Let rise again for 30-45 minutes covered with a towel.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until slightly golden brown at the edges.
  8. Create the frosting by mixing all frosting ingredients until fluffy, then spread over warm rolls and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
For easier cutting, use a pizza cutter on the rolled dough before baking.
These rolls can also be prepared the night before and left to rise in the refrigerator. Bake them fresh in the morning.
