Mummy Apple Hand Pies are a festive fall treat featuring sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples encased in flaky pastry, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of peeled, chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 ready-made pie crusts (or you can make your own if you prefer)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Candy eyes (or you can use chocolate chips)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Combine chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, cornstarch, and salt in a bowl and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  • Roll out pie crusts and cut circles.
  • Place apple mixture on half of the circles, brush edges with egg wash, and top with remaining circles, sealing with a fork.
  • Cut thin strips from leftover crust and create mummy stripes on top, brushing with egg wash.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly, then add candy eyes and powdered sugar if desired.
