- 3 cups (360g) confectioners’ sugar (for buttercream)
- 3 tablespoons (45ml) heavy cream, half-and-half, or whole milk, at room temperature (for buttercream)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for buttercream)
- Salt, to taste (for buttercream)
- Optional: sprinkles for garnish (for buttercream)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Whisk together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream softened butter until smooth, add granulated sugar, and mix well.
- Incorporate egg whites, sour cream, and vanilla extract into the mixture.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, adding whole milk gradually.
- Fold in the sprinkles gently.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 27-31 minutes.
- Allow cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- Prepare vanilla buttercream by beating softened butter, then adding confectioners' sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla.
- Frost the cooled cake with buttercream and add additional sprinkles on top.
