- 1 cup (224 g) unsalted butter, at room temperature (for frosting)
- 4 oz (113 g) cream cheese, cold
- 2 cups (260 g) powdered sugar
- Red food coloring (for decorative pink icing)
- Valentine's Day sprinkles (for decorating)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
- Whisk together dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, mix until combined.
- Fold in red gel food coloring.
- Distribute batter in pans and bake for 26-29 minutes.
- Cool cakes before removing from pans.
- Beat softened butter for frosting until fluffy.
- Incorporate cream cheese and powdered sugar, mix until smooth.
- Level cooled cakes and shape into a heart.
- Frost the cake and decorate with colored frosting and sprinkles.
