  • 1 unbaked Flaky Pie Crust or All Butter Pie Crust
  • 1 large egg white, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, cut into tablespoons
  • 2 Tablespoons (30ml) vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs + 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (62g) unsweetened natural or Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (63g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (100g) chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup (135g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: ice cream, whipped cream, hot fudge, chocolate syrup for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare pie dough a day in advance and chill it before rolling out.
  • Roll out dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and blind bake the crust with weights for 15-16 minutes.
  • Melt the butter, then mix in sugar and oil before combining with eggs and vanilla.
  • Fold in cocoa powder, flour, salt, walnuts, and chocolate chips.
  • Fill the pre-baked crust with brownie mixture and bake at 350°F (177°C) for 40-45 minutes.
  • Serve warm or cold, optionally topped with ice cream or hot fudge.
