- 1 cup (200g) packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch (aka cornflour)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 and 1/2 cups (270g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: chocolate buttercream for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9-inch pan with nonstick spray.
- Cream together the butter and brown sugar until creamy.
- Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla; mix until combined.
- Combine flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl; add to the wet mixture.
- Fold in chocolate chips gently.
- Press the dough into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 22-26 minutes until golden brown; check for doneness with a toothpick.
- Let cool completely before transferring or decorating.
