- 8 ounces Crisco
- ½ cup cold water
- 12 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ cup water
- 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (for topping)
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Combine flour and salt in a bowl and whisk well.
- Add Crisco and blend until crumbly.
- Slowly mix in cold water until dough forms.
- Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Roll out one disc for the bottom crust and place in pie dish.
- Mix sliced apples with lemon juice, then toss with sugars, cornstarch, and spices.
- Fill prepared crust with apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Prepare lattice top, weaving strips over the filling and sealing edges.
- Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Bake at 450°F for 20 mins; reduce heat to 350°F and bake for an additional 30-40 mins.
