  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for topping)
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  • Combine flour and salt in a bowl and whisk well.
  • Add Crisco and blend until crumbly.
  • Slowly mix in cold water until dough forms.
  • Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • Roll out one disc for the bottom crust and place in pie dish.
  • Mix sliced apples with lemon juice, then toss with sugars, cornstarch, and spices.
  • Fill prepared crust with apple mixture and dot with butter.
  • Prepare lattice top, weaving strips over the filling and sealing edges.
  • Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Bake at 450°F for 20 mins; reduce heat to 350°F and bake for an additional 30-40 mins.
